4 Ways to Rejuvenate Your Entrepreneurial Spirit – Guilt Free!

Have you been feeling like you need to take a break from your business, but feel like you can’t? You are not alone. Many entrepreneurs feel the pressure to keep plugging along, either because they can’t afford to take a vacation, or they can’t afford to stop the business for an entire week or two.

I freelance from home, so I am all too familiar with being my own boss and feeling guilty about taking time off. At times I think I might miss some work that could have come my way, or miss a deadline that I didn’t time out right. But, I’m here to tell you that we need to stop thinking this way.

By not taking the time to decompress, we are setting ourselves up for failure more than if we simply take a few days off. So, I have done some thinking on this topic and would like to share some ideas that I think would work for everyone.

Inexpensive Inns

Try looking for an inexpensive and quaint inn to stay at. They often have a cozy and relaxed atmosphere, as if you are staying with family. A traditional bed and breakfast is a wonderful place to stay, but often expensive.

However, just do a little research on websites such as VRBO.com or Homeaway.com. These sites are great for finding accommodations based on your desired location, budget, and preferred amenities. For example, you might look for a kitchenette so you can save money by not eating out.

You could find an inexpensive place to stay with a kitchenette stocked with all the goods such as cookware. All Clad or not, it will be items to allow you to save money by cooking yourself.

Weekend Getaways

If you are not taking a vacation because you don’t want to take an entire week off, try a weekend getaway. It doesn’t have to be far from the home, so it won’t eat up a lot of your time in traveling back and forth.

There are a few options for a weekend getaway including an all inclusive resort, a cabin with all the comforts of home, or camping. Granted, camping might not have the luxuries of home. But, sometimes roughing it can generate some inspiration for new material.

If you are looking for a more pampered weekend getaway, check the sites I mentioned above to find one that is all inclusive and features items such as a Jacuzzi tub, a patio with an oceanfront view, or whatever it is that brings a little serenity to your world.

I found one through VRBO based on waterfront property, in a certain location, with a hot tub. I was able to read the reviews, see photos, read all about the home and area, as well as correspond with the owner before putting down a deposit. And, this service is free to the renters.

Staycations

Perhaps you don’t want to travel at all, or can’t for some reason. But, you still want to take a needed break to refresh your business spirit. The latest trend for people wanting to save both money and time is the ‘staycation’, where you take the break, without leaving the area or even your home, if necessary.

One idea for this is to turn your living room into a spa, by hiring a massage therapist to come to your home. They are able to do an individual massage, or even a couple’s massage. Here are some tips to make it seem like you are no longer at home, but rather at a retreat:

  • Candles. Light a few around the room, or get flameless
  • Lighting. Turn the lights down low, if it’s in the evening.
  • Music. There are CD’s made specifically for relaxation.
  • Draping. Drape some sheets around the room for a cozy feeling, while blocking off the furniture.
  • Wine. Get the wine glasses out and pour yourself a glass of wine.

There are other ideas such as picnics, bike adventures, parties, but the spa day is my favorite.

Visit Family or Friends

An inexpensive and quick break would be to visit family or friends who don’t live too far away, especially if they live in a resort area. If you are close with them, then staying with them would be far less expensive than staying at a hotel.

But, even if you stay at a hotel, they might be able to guide you to places that are less expensive for dining and site seeing.

In Closing

Hopefully I have given you some ideas to go on when it comes to taking a much needed break from the grind. Or, maybe it has inspired you to do your own research on the subject. You never know where your inspiration may come from. For example, I was searching for Emerilware cookware reviews when an ad popped up about vacation resorts, which in turn inspired me to write about vacations.

Great ideas, I have a friends wedding coming up and I can’t wait to see old friends catch up and relax. Thank goodness she allowed me not to be in the wedding. I just don’t have the time.

I normally spend most of vacation time at home, so I guess it’s called staycations. :) But once every couple of years, I get to go to distant places for our family reunion.
